 No Fire Cuts City Coalition is a city wide network of various groups and individuals who are dedicated to fighting the closing of any NYC Firehouse and cuts to manpower that would create smaller crews.Our group includes longtime activists such as People’s Firehouse, Inc., Ground Zero volunteers,local community organizations such as Save Engine 36 and extraordinary New Yorkers. we are in contact with firefighters, politicians and communities-we all have a vested interest in keeping firehouses open. In addition we work with in association with other community groups such as the Firefighter Appreciation Committee and Save Eng. 36
Firehouses play an especially crucial role in middle class and poor neighborhoods and the majority of the houses slated to close are in those neighborhoods that can least afford it. Moreover, they are our first responders in the event of another terrorist attack.Sept. 11th was a stark reminder of exactly how necessary and effective NYC firefighters are, despite that they are underpaid, undermanned, and poorly used by the city. Yet every day firefighters do their job with courage and commitment- and they do it exceptionally well. It’s time for New Yorkers, businesses and civic organizations to honor the close to 300 years of courage and commitment firefighters have given the City of New York. The best way we can do that is to make sure they have what they need. No Fire Cuts’ mission is to do just that. In protecting our firehouses, we protect ourselves.
